The sludge dewatering section of the steam turbine plant treatment facilities, constructed within the project “Utilization of bark, wood waste and treatment facilities sludge by incineration in a boiler”, was put into operation in 2007. Due to the change in the production of paper from 100% thermomechanical pulp in 2015, the conditions of waste incineration in the boiler have changed, and the need to upgrade the equipment for sludge dewatering arose.

“Within the last 5 years JSC Volga specialists have explored more than 15 different options for the necessary equipment, and in April 2021 two dewatering process lines BELLMER Kufferath Machinery GmbH (Germany) were acquired,” stated the Deputy General Director Production Andrey Gurylev.

In equipment installation were involved such contracting organizations as JSC Petromontazh-Service (installation of the main equipment), LLC PSK Modul (production of supporting structures) and LLC Power Systems (electrical installation works). JSC Volga staff from the power plant, mechanical repair section, steam turbine plant and paper plant №3 has carried out the installation of pipelines, pumps and auxiliary equipment.

Adjustment works and comprehensive testing were conducted in 72 hours of continuous operation of the equipment under the control of the manufacturer representatives and completed this May. As a result, the guarantee figures of process lines were reached, and on 2 June the equipment was successfully put into operation.

The project at hand was implemented within the framework of the new environmental program approved by JSC Volga that aims at reducing the company's impact on the environment.
As Andrey Gurylev has noted, the further improvement of technological process in the steam turbine plant is planned for the near future: this June the bark chopping machine and the exhaust fan of the waste heat boiler are to be repaired and the pipelines are to be replaced.
