The work on increasing the JSC Volga production quality continues

Let us remember that back in 2019 the company management decided to formulate a strategy for the development of production and the diversification of the product portfolio, the gradual implementation of which will allow to load all the existing equipment at 100% and utilize the full potential of paper-making machines.
The audits of the PM 8 and the TMP-1 plant equipment have become a part of this program that will help to identify the so-called “bottlenecks”, which make it difficult to boost the productivity of the equipment, to find out how to increase the capacity and how much it can be increased.

“In the autumn of 2020, the inspection of the machine started,” said Nikolai Skvortsov. “The Voith company helped to determine the level of product quality by examining our paper in their laboratories and preparing a report on possible ways to improve its quality. Voith specialists visited the site of JSC Volga during the preventative maintenance period, they inspected and monitored the state of the PM, made the necessary calculations, and observed the operation of the equipment to assess its condition.”

In February this year, vibration diagnostics of the PM 8 will be carried out: the readings of special sensors installed on the paper-making machine will allow to accurately diagnose its mechanical condition.
The final point of the audit program is a comprehensive report, which will be accepted by Volga for further implementation in order to improve the quality of finished products and increase the working speed of the PM.
As the New Year holidays were over, the audit of the thermomechanical pulp production plant (TMP-1) began, for which the specialists from one of the leading European suppliers of the equipment for the pulp and paper industry were invited. They will evaluate the current state of the technology and equipment as well as make suggestions for improving the quality of the semi-finished product (thermomechanical pulp).

“The results of the audit from the TMP-1 plant will be known to us during the first quarter of this year,” stated Nikolay Skvortzov. He also added that last year the employees of JSC Volga started preparing for an increase in paper production in 2021. For instance, the modernization of the TG-3 turbine in the power complex (NiGRES) and the increase in the electricity supply for the main production of the paper mill made it possible to maintain three paper-making machines and semi-finished products production continuously in operation.

In 2021, JSC Volga also launched a technical audit project of the PM 6 to prepare it for a large-scale reconstruction. The implementation of the paper-making machine reconstruction project and its subsequent start-up will allow to increase the plant's productivity by more than 100,000 tons per year in the future.
Already this year, the increase in productivity of about 40 thousand tons of finished products (this is 15% more than in 2020) is expected.
