Top-10 most important events of 2020 for JSC Volga

Priority areas for the company in the outgoing year were the implementation of a major investment project for the construction of a new thermomechanical pulp plant, as well as sustainable development, diversification of the product portfolio, modernization of the main and auxiliary production facilities. In the eve of New Year let us remember which events and achievements of JSC Volga marked the outgoing year.

1. JSC Volga became a vertically integrated timber company

Starting from January 2020, the process of raw forest materials preparation to provide for the Balakhna Paper Mill’s production capacities began on logging units with a total area of more than 100 thousand hectares in Varnavin district, Nizhny Novgorod region.
As a result, JSC Volga completed the formation of the full cycle production: from raw materials preparation to finished goods realization, thus, becoming a vertically integrated timber company.

2. The new thermomechanical pulp production line was launched within the framework of the priority investment project

The priority investment project in the field of forest development became one of the largest projects in our company’s investment program. The amount of investment comprises about 1,5 billion rubles.
Its implementation will allow to increase the volume of thermomechanical pulp that can be used for paper production by 60 000 tons per year, will bring more than 600 million rubles of tax liabilities into federal and regional budgets and will create new employment opportunities.

3. JSC Volga once again received the Honorary standard from the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region

JSC Volga, which makes a significant contribution to the industry development in Nizhny Novgorod region, became the leading enterprise of the timber industry in the region. It is noteworthy that the Balakhna paper makers receive the Honorary standard from the Governor second year in a row.

4. The rating agency “Expert RA” assigned the ruBBB+ level of credit rating to JSC Volga


The rating outlook is stable. The agency notes the moderately high level of strategic planning, as well as the moderately high detailing of predictive financial model.
All the necessary elements of the risk management system organization are present in the Company.


5. JSC Volga made the top-3 of the ranking “Most informationally transparent timber companies in Russia”

The company got 42 points for its high level of information transparency.
Other companies that made the top-3 aside from JSC Volga are Ilim Group (1st place, 48 points) and Solikam Pulp and Paper Mill (2nd place, 42.5 points).
The information transparency of the companies participating in the ranking is the basis of corporate management and affects their investment attractiveness.


6. JSC Volga made the top-10 of the list “Top 100: Russia’s leaders in 3 years productivity growth”

The increase in the company’s productivity over the past 3 years (from 2017 to 2019) amounted to 112%.
The productivity growth in one year is a significant indicator of the company’s activity. But a 3 years growth is even more significant, as it demonstrates the systematic work of the company’s management to improve its efficiency, from year to year, despite serious external challenges and market fluctuations.

7. JSC Volga was included in the list of the core (socially significant) timber companies in Russia by Ministry of Industry and Trade

In April, 2020 the representation of the Russian timber industry companies was expanded in the federal register: 41 companies were additionally included in the list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the total number of the core enterprises in the industry reached 51.

8. The turbo generator PТ-80/100-130/13 ст.№3. was modernized at the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Power Station of JSC Volga

The actual output capacity of the equipment was increased by 4.5-7.0 MW (depending on the season). The flow part of the turbo generator was restored and upgraded, which resulted in the increase of the output power due to an increase in efficiency by 6-8% depending on the load (at the same steam and gas consumption).

9. JSC Volga implemented the project to separate the process flow of the PM 5 into an independent line

The separation of the process flows of the PMs 5 and 8 allows to simultaneously produce paper grades of different shades on these machines. The project implementation not only enabled the increase in flexibility of the production process of various products in different shades, but also helped to create new products.


10. Three JSC Volga products were included in the list of “100 best goods in Russia” in 2020

According to the results of the Federal stage of the all-Russian competition “100 best goods
in Russia”, low-mass newsprint (TU 17.12.11-003-00279278-2004) under the brand of JSC Volga became a prize winner. For the first time this year, two other products of JSC Volga also became prize winners of the competition: paper for flat layers of corrugated
cardboard (TU 17.12.72-011-00279278-2020) and uncoated bulky paper used for printing and other graphic purposes (TU 17.12.14-010-00279278- 2020).
