Volga Receives a New Quality Certificate.

Nadezda Smirnova, Head of the Laboratory and Quality division, told Vremya Volgi (issue No. 5, February 12, 2015) that in late December 2014, Volga obtained the certification of its E Grade wrapping paper used in the packaging of industrial goods and food products with max. 15% moisture.

43,299 Tonnes Newsprint Produced in December 2014.

According to statistics from PPB-Express magazine (No. 3, 2015), Volga produced 43,299 tonnes newsprint in December 2014, coming out on top among paper companies in Russia.

Volga To Pursue Energy-Saving and Efficiency Improving Plans.

Volga’s technical agenda has been quite intensive this year. To ensure safe operation of the Mill’s production facilities, Volga has had its waterside structures examined by an expert company, who concluded that they can continue to be operated in compliance with legal regulations. Volga has also implemented some fire safety arrangements designed to prevent material damage and, most importantly, life loss.

Laitex Ash Conveyor Put into Operation

Laitex Oy (Finland) has supplied a new ash conveyor as part of the ash handling retrofit at the boiler plant. The water-filled ash conveyor has been designed to protect from high temperatures and dust hazards encountered during ash removal, transportation and storage.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification involves annual surveillance audits by an FSC-accredited certification body to check if the company’s operations are in compliance with the requirements of FSC international standards and if the corrective actions as identified during the previous audit have been fulfilled.

Newsprint Production in 1H 2014

Volga produced 283,636 tonnes of paper for the first six months of 2014. This compares to 280,120 tonnes in 1H 2013, showing an upward trend of 1.3%.

New RMS-RS1 Gap Control System to Replace DCA-02 at TMP Refiners

As JSC Volga is proceeding with plans to phase the old DCA-02 measuring system out of service and to equip all of its RGP-60 refiners with RMS-RS1 control system, the new system has recently been installed at another two refiners (pos. 2-1304 and 2-2202) at the TMP plant.

Railway Freight Handling Operations in January 2014

January 2014, being a short working month due to a lengthy holiday season, was very busy for railway freight handling operations. Volga handled more than 900 timber-carrying railcars and more than 100 railcars with various cargoes for the mill. In addition, the company loaded and dispatched about 40 newsprint boxcars and 15 container trains with nearly 900 newsprint containers for its customers.

January 2014 Production Data

The statistic data about the production of newsprint in JSC Volga during January 2014 are the following: 48. 290 thousand tons of newsprint were produced. This is 2.069 thousand tons more comparing with January 2013.

2013 Production Data

According to the newly released production data, Volga produced 551,770 tonnes newsprint in 2013, which is 12,580 tonnes more than in 2012.
